Corporate Support Keeps HMS Unicorn Shipshape

Behind every great ship is a great crew – and HMS Unicorn is proud to be supported by an exceptional group of corporate partners who help keep her safe, accessible, and ready to welcome future generations. Thanks to the generous in-kind support and expertise of several businesses, HMS Unicorn has recently undergone a series of essential upgrades – from securing her place in Victoria Dock to improving access for all.

A special thank-you goes to Babcock International Group at Rosyth, who generously supplied a full set of brand-new mooring lines – helping to ensure HMS Unicorn remains safely berthed through all weather conditions. The mooring lines were expertly spliced by MacKays of Arbroath and installed in-house by our own team.  This crucial behind-the-scenes work might not always be visible to visitors, but it plays a vital role in preserving and protecting one of the oldest ships in the world.

Thanks to a significant Scottish Landfill Communities Fund grant from FCC Communities Foundation, HMS Unicorn was also able to replace all three of its ageing access gangways – a major step forward in improving accessibility and visitor safety. The new gangways were designed, fabricated, and installed by the Clow Group, who kindly undertook the work at cost, representing a significant in-kind contribution to the project. Their high-quality craftsmanship and commitment to the ship have made a lasting impact.

We are deeply grateful to:

Joe Doogan and the team at Babcock’s Rosyth facility

MacKays of Arbroath, our trusted marine specialists

Richard Smith and Ian McDonald at FCC Communities Foundation

Cameron Clow and the brilliant team at Clow Group
